Karachi saw temperature falling as low as 9C on the first day of New Year, making it the coldest day of the season while Lahore witnessed December 2019 as the coldest month in 17 years.
Sibbi and adjoining areas recorded its chilliest day in a century.
Several cities in Punjab experienced temperatures as low as 2C while the weather remained cold in Khyber-Pakhtunkwa (K-P) and Balochistan.
Pakistan in icy grip of severe cold snap
In K-P, the highest temperatures of-4C was recorded in Bannu. The temperature dropped to -6C in Ziarat, -2C in Kalat, and 1C was recorded in Quetta. Skardu remained the coldest spot in the country with -22C.
Light rain and thunderstorm are also expected at isolated places in Northwest Balochistan, upper hilly areas of K-P, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (G-B), during the next 12 hours.
As per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the currrent cold wave would persist for the next few days.
The temperatures in other major cities recorded on Wednesday morning are; Islamabad 2C, Peshawar 3C, Muzaffarabad 1, Quetta -2C, Murree and G-B -1C respectively.
