WAPDA: PTI govt to recruit workers to combat staff shortage

Over 10,000 employees will be hired in different cadres for all power distribution companies

ABBOTTABAD: The government will recruit 10,000 employees in different cadres for all power distribution companies including 3,500 for Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to overcome shortage of Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) staff, said Federal Minister for Power Omer Ayub Khan on Monday.

Talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Union, led by Jameel Tanooli, he said, “The government is committed to resolving issues of Wapda employees on a priority basis.”

He said that on the directives of the prime minister, crackdown against power pilferers have been initiated and Rs112 billion have been recovered from pilferers. He added that the revenue of Wapda has also increased up to Rs228 billion.
