Teachers’ demands fall on deaf ears

KARACHI: With demands pertaining to the regularisation of teachers, who passed tests held by the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Iqra University and the National Testing Service, remaining unmet, teachers from across Sindh continued to protest outside the Karachi Press Club for the 19th consecutive day on Friday. The total number of teachers demanding regularisation stands at around 10,000.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Teachers Action Committee Chairperson Ameer Bakhsh said that Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Prisons and Inter Provincial Coordination Aijaz Jakhrani had invited the teachers on behalf of the provincial government for a meeting on December 23. Bakhsh said that Jakhrani had assured the teachers that their issues would be presented before the chief minister by December 27. However, added Bakhsh, no one has contacted the teachers again as yet. He announced the intent to march towards CM House again on December 30.
