A two-week long summer institute will be training 100 teachers and 50 students under the English Access microscholarship programme, an initiative of the United States Embassy in partnership with the Society for International Education, iEARN.
They will focus on training language teachers in the Access Programme Summer Institute (ASI). Preparation for the Youth Exchange and Study Programme is also offered.
At the launch on Monday, US Consul General William Martin said, “Each of you should feel proud to serve as representatives of your local community and showcase the cultural diversity of Pakistan... English will enable you to achieve your academic goals, enhance your career prospects, and help build a strong relationship between our countries.”
According to the US consulate, Pakistan has the largest number of young people enrolled in the programme-over 5,000.
Worldwide, over 70,000 students in 85 countries are supported by the initiative.
