KARACHI: The ousted Pakistan Kidney Liver Institute (PKLI) chief Prof Saeed Akhtar has plans to establish his own organ transplant institute in Islamabad and Karachi for underprivileged people.

His decision comes after the Punjab government ended the autonomy of PKLI and decided to turn it into another public hospital.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday during the ongoing international research conference at Jinnah Sindh Medical University, he said that, “Initially, it would be a small institute as compared to PKLI but soon it would be run as a state-of-the-art organ transplant and research institute”.

The two-day conference was organised by the JSMU Alumni Association of North America.
