Life jackets given to Shangla boat operators

Several remote villages located along the banks of the river use boats as their primary mode of transportation

SHANGLA: In a year when dozens drowned when a boat capsized near the Tarbela lake, Shangla Deputy Commissioner Imran Hussain Ranjha on Friday distributed life jackets to boat-operators in Martung

Before being provided with the jackets, boat operators were given a demonstration on their proper use. They were further sensitised about the importance and utility of adopting safety measures when ferrying passengers.

A local committee, consisting notables of the area has been constituted and entrusted with the responsibility to ensure proper use of life-jackets.

Furthermore, local police have been involved to monitor the adaption of safety measures through a District Intelligence Coordination Committee.
