Iraq violence: Seven killed in Baghdad, Mosul attacks

The violence comes after June was the deadliest month so far this year for the number of Iraqis killed.

BAGHDAD: Seven people were killed in gun and bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital and the northern city of Mosul on Sunday, police said.

Two policemen were among three people gunned down as unidentified assailants attacked a checkpoint in Mosul, where a bomb killed a man and woman.

Another two people were killed and one wounded in a bombing in the Al-Amriyah district of western Baghdad, police said.

The violence comes after June was the deadliest month so far this year for the number of Iraqis killed.

Last month, 271 Iraqis died in attacks -- 155 civilians, 77 policemen and 39 soldiers -- according to a government count.
