More than 50,000 representatives ousted in a day

ISLAMABAD: The mayors and chairmen of dissolved local governments (LGs) across Punjab held a protest outside Parliament House on Tuesday.

The political leaders from different parties including Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam Aurangzaib from Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) and Nafeesa Shah from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) also joined them.

The protesters chanted slogans against dissolution of the bodies while they also raised placards and banners against the move of Punjab government.

The speakers said  it had been around seven months that there were no LGs in Punjab and the people of felt abandoned and ruined .They said that the mandate of five years was wrapped-up suddenly. “ This is exploitation which should end”, they chanted.

The protesters demanded of chief justice to order restoration of LGs in Punjab. “We should be informed of how our mandate was fake,” the elected public representatives demanded.

Further, Ahsan Iqbal said that more than 50,000 representatives were ousted in a day. The office-holders were compelled to knock the doors of courts, he added.
