Fire erupts near Karachi University

The operation lasted hours, no casualties in the process

Fire erupted near University of Karachi on Tuesday night and it soon spread and engulfed nearby bushes and trees in Gulshan-e-Kaneez. As many as three fire tenders, replenished by 10 water tankers, were used to douse the flames. PHOTO: EXPRESS

KARACHI: A massive fire broke out near the University of Karachi on Tuesday night, following which three fire tenders reached the spot and doused the flames after a struggle of a couple of hours.

At least 10 water tankers were used to replenish the fire tenders.

According to fire department officials, the operation lasted for hours as it was interrupted and firefighters faced difficulties due to the presence of public near the place of the incident. They said that they were informed of the incident around 7.30pm and immediately reached the site. Bushes and trees near the varsity, in Gulshan-e-Kaneez, too had caught fire, the officials said, adding that no casualties were reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, water supply from water hydrants at Safoora Chowrangi and Nipa was diverted to the place of the incident, to assist with extinguishing the blaze.
