One-wheeling

Letter December 18, 2019
Govt should set up safe racetracks for riders and depute trainers where riders can take part in biking activities

RAWALPINDI: I have witnessed one-wheeling stunts multiple times in Rawalpindi. This stunt has a cost and many Pakistanis lose their lives every single day due to accidents. The authorities concerned also claim sometimes that they have reduced the one-wheeling cases.

These one-wheelers are not only risking their own lives, but threatening other people on the roads too. Many times we come across news about bikers hitting pedestrians while one-wheeling on their bikes.  Among the many causes, fuelling this dangerous trend is the practice of betting.

With this trend rampant, the government has ordered the traffic police to keep a strict eye on the one-wheelers, especially at night. Many one-wheelers have competitions at night resulting in several casualties.

I urge the government, traffic police and other relevant authorities to take action to put a stop to one-wheeling. The government should set up safe racetracks for riders and depute special trainers where riders can take part in biking activities in a healthy and safe environment. It is necessary to protect both daring bikers and others on the road, including pedestrians.
