FAISALABAD:

The Lyallpur Development Organization (LDO) organised a Human Rights seminar in collaboration with Youth Together for Human Rights Education and Youth for Human Rights International on Saturday.

The seminar took place in the Government College for Women Madina Town campus. A total of 60 female students and teachers of the college participated in the seminar, which aimed at promoting the concept of human rights as well as touch upon different aspects of human rights in a national and international context.

Speakers at the seminar included Iftikhar Ahmad, Tahir Iqbal, Rabail Babar, college principal Rasheeda Zafar and Shazia George. College Principal Rasheeda Zafar gave a concluding address on the occasion and also said that regular ‘awareness sessions’ would be organised on campus in this regard. “Given the increasing number of human rights violations in Pakistan, students need to be made aware of human rights issues,” Zafar said.  Speakers on the occasion said that gender-based discrimination in the curriculum needed to be removed and education should be made free and compulsory for all citizens.
