Corruption

Letter December 11, 2019
If students see teachers doing corruption, they will imitate them

PESHAWAR: On 9th December the global community observed “International Anti-Corruption Day”. Similarly in Pakistan, it was also celebrated by NAB and other departments. In Pakistan, we have realised how many problems corruption can cause to our country but the ones who are corrupt never understand. We can find corrupt people in each and every institution or department. As students, how are we victims of corruption? The answer can be found in every school, college or university. Educational institutions get millions of funds for infrastructure, education, tours and picnics. This money never reaches the students.

I belong to a small town of Charsadda and work as a social worker in a school. From the very start, I’ve never witnessed a single day when the students have got something from our school administration. I initially thought this was specifically the problem with our school only but it seems that universities and colleges across Pakistan face similar problems. Schools may get less but colleges and universities get billons of rupees annually, from which a small amount is spent for betterment of students. Most of the money is pocketed by the authorities.

Students are the future of our nation. They are the upcoming generation. If they see teachers doing corruption, they will imitate them. We should stop this.
