The year 2019 saw tech giants battle it out to bring top-notch designs and updated features for its users.

However, one of the most interesting that shaped the smartphone industry was the introduction of foldable phones.

The Express Tribune lists down 4 foldable devices that debuted in the smartphone industry;

Samsung Galaxy Fold

The world’s largest smartphone maker is powering ahead with the launch of 5G phones and $2,000 foldable handsets as it battles rivals Apple and Huawei in an increasingly saturated market.

Its new design enables the device to fold in half horizontally.

“The amazing thing with the foldable technology is that it can also become more compact like this,” said Sally Hyesoon Jeong, head of Framework R&D Group at Samsung’s mobile communications, showing the mock-up on a screen behind her.

Huawei Mate X

The launch of the 5G Mate X smartphone has been delayed twice this year, as Huawei, the world’s No.2 smartphone maker, was forced to deal with tech supply disruptions caused by a US trade blacklist imposed on the firm in May.

The device was officially launched on November 15 in China at prices starting from $2,403, a Huawei spokesman said.

Its global launch plan remains under review, the company said.

LG G8X ThinQ

LG launched its bulky yet well-performing foldable phone in the year 2019, competing with other smartphones.

The device is packed with a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display that provides better and vibrant screen visuals. The device comes with a detachable dual-screen that amps up your gaming experience while playing your favourite games.

LG G8X ThinQ is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core Processor and 4000 mAh battery pack that enhances the performance and power of the device.

Motorola Foldable Razr

Those who remember the year 2004 will also recall how Motorola Razr was the talk of the town, everybody was flaunting this smartphone.

Fast forward 15 years, the American smartphone brand is back with an upgraded, sleek and stylish Motorola Foldable Razr.

Priced at $1,499 this new smartphone has again gained public attention with the secret “Retro Razr” mode that turns the device into the original image of its 2004 model.

The mode has a glorified skinned Android launcher that imitates the original RAZR UI and classic boot animation through software. The skin is fully functional you could easily launch the Android messaging app, dial a phone number and open settings.

The launch of foldable devices made waves in the smartphone industry with impeccable designs being introduced but at a very steep price point.
