Jaffar George, a minister without portfolio in the Balochistan cabinet, belongs to the ruling Pakistan People’s Party. He was arrested along with his two friends for a drunken brawl in a theatre in Lahore.
A case was registered against him in the Qila Gujar Singh police station. The Lahore police produced the trio before a local magistrate on Sunday. The court released them on bail after recording their statements.
George rejected the charges, calling it a conspiracy against him. “I visited the theatre along with my brother-in-law to watch a show. We demanded tickets for the front row but the theatre manager misbehaved with me,” he told The Express Tribune.
Calling it political victimisation, George alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League was conspiring to damage his reputation. “Police and private guards manhandled us in custody,” he said and added that “it was pre-planned.”
