This was stated by former senator Afrasiyab Khattak while addressing the inaugural session of the fifth international conference on paradoxes anomalies in the 1973 Constitution. The conference had been organised by the University of Peshawar’s (UoP) History Department and the German Hans Siedel Foundation on Monday.
The conference aims to generate a debate on different aspects of the 1973 Constitution which either clash with other clauses or may look plausible but are contradictory to the real spirit of the Constitution.
The theme of the conference was “paradoxes anomalies in the 1973 constitution”.
Khattak said that the 1973 Constitution is undoubtedly the best of all constitutional arrangements the country has seen in its 72-year-history.
However, he pointed out that some constitutional experts, lawyers and academicians have raised concerns about the paradoxes and anomalies in several parts in many clauses.
