PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz on Monday asked district administration officials to conduct surprise visits of markets to keep a tab on the prices being charged for essential commodities.

He said this while presiding over a high-level meeting of the divisional and district administrations in the Cabinet Room of Civil Secretariat in Peshawar on Monday.

The meeting focussed on removing illegal encroachment in different districts, discouraging the use of polythene bags, ensuring checking and monitoring of prices of essential commodities of daily use, implementing the polio eradication programme, holding open kucheries and nominating focal people at the divisional and district levels while linking them to the provincial information and media cell.

The meeting took several decisions for efficient delivery and giving relief to the public. Dr Niaz was briefed on the government’s initiatives and he asked the status of implementation on the tasks assigned.

He also asked for constantly holding open kucheries to effectively address public grievances. There should be no escape for the land mafia, he said, adding that the government aims to rectify the wrongs.
