Declining literacy rate

Lack of education is the root cause of numerous other problems that we can never solve

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s literacy rate has declined to 58% from 60%, according to the Economic Survey of Pakistan (2016-2017). A significant number of children are not even able to read or write. The lack of education results in various evil outcomes such as child labour, crime and civil inequalities. An illiterate person lacks the knowledge and awareness to decide what is good and what is bad for him. The democratic setup of our country is a living example of this. People keep electing despite being unaware about the person they are voting for or without knowing properly a party’s manifesto. This disaster results in harming the country as the leadership goes in the wrong hands.

Lack of education is the root cause of numerous other problems that we can never solve. Developed countries have a better education system and standard. They provide free of cost education to all citizens and consider it as the basic right of every human being.

In Pakistan, there are some effectual educational policies but the problem of implementation, unfairness, maintenance and corruption remains constant, resulting in failure of these policies. This issue needs to be addressed if we want a progressive, prosperous and peaceful nation.
