ISLAMABAD: Hill resorts set up in areas adjoining the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) are creating serious environmental problems for the park owing to poor waste management.

An official of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) on Friday said that MHNP’s ecology, especially the water springs that feed it, are being polluted due to the waste and effluent disposed from over a dozen hill resorts which have sprung up on the edges of the park in the adjoining areas of Haripur district in Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Visitors keep violating environmental laws through improper waste disposal, the official said on the condition of anonymity.

These hill resorts lack a proper mechanism to dispose of their solid waste and sewage.
