"We will have to take our destiny in our own hands and decide our political future according to our free-will," said AJK president during his interaction with a gathering of students at Queen Mary University on Thursday. The event was organised by the Pakistan Society QMU.
While calling attention towards prevailing situation in IOK, President Masood said gross human rights violations in the disputed territory need to be halted – the valley which has been under lockdown since New Delhi's unlawful move of scrapping Kashmir's special status on August 5.
"The unresolved Kashmir issue has put the peace and security of South Asia at stake," he said while arguing that the resolution of the decades-old dispute is the responsibility of the entire global community.
He also said that Indian actions on August 5 and October 31 were illegal, adding that IOK had been annexed and bifurcated in a unilateral move. "The entire population is being asphyxiated and brutalised, and the Kashmiri people have been besieged and made prisoners in their own homes."
The AJK president asserted that the Kashmiri people have been denied their basic rights including right to self-determination.
He said that special rights of the Kashmiri people to employment, education and possession of property have now been usurped and conspiracy has been hatching to settle non-Kashmiri Hindus from all over India in the Himalayan valley.
In order to divert attention from the illegal actions, he said, the Modi government was threatening Pakistan with nuclear war and claiming to attack AJK.
"India has disenfranchised the Muslim population in India. This radical Hindutva policy of alienation and deprivation is fuelled by hatred, xenophobia and extremist Hindu religious supremacy."
After incarcerating the people of the valley and destroying the economy, India was trying to portray the condition of IOK as normal to deceive the world community.
"India was attempting to recast the story of Jammu and Kashmir but thankfully this false narrative of theirs has been rejected by the international media and world's parliaments," he added.
