Lawyers demand arrest of accused doctors in PIC scuffle

LAHORE: The representatives of Lahore Bar Association (LBA) locked the district courts halting judicial work to register their protest against Punjab police over failing to arrests the doctors who thrashed lawyers at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

The lawyers assembled at the LHC where they delivered fiery speeches against the government, which according to them, was not willing to arrest the accused doctors.

LBA president Asim Cheema said the doctors of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) were the real accused and they would take revenge from them.

The lawyers also vowed to expand their protest countrywide and would take every bar on board under which no police officials could be allowed to appear before any court for the sake of remand or other matters, he maintained.

“No police personnel will be allowed to appear before the court until their accused are arrested”, said LBA president Cheema. They will cordon off Inspector General Police office tomorrow (today) and will also keep closed the secretariat, he cautioned. Three Kachahries will also be closed, he stated.

Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA)’s secretary Fiyaz Ranjha assured full support to LBA at Supreme Court Bar Association and Punjab Bar Council’s level. He stressed the government to arrest the accused doctors to avoid further chaos.

The LBA representatives had also summoned a meeting at Aiwan-e-Adl where they had given deadlines to police for the arrest of doctors. They had intimated the policed that if the accused doctors were not arrested then there would be no option left for them except to cordon off PIC for taking revenge from doctors.
