Prisons’ data to be computerised

KARACHI: Sindh Prisons Inspector General Nusrat Hussain Mangan has said that data of prisons across Sindh is being computerised with the help of the United Nations (UN).

Data of around 20,000 prisoners has been computerised in 24 prisons across the province. Prisons IG Mangan told The Express Tribune that the department, aided by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), expressed interest and developed the software according to their needs.

Superintendents and other officers of jails across Sindh attended the training session at a local hotel, where they were taught about computers and the software. “The record includes the prisoners’ crime, their arrival in the jail, their profile along with their appearances before the court, the progress of each court hearing and complete details of their cases,” he said, while briefing about the software.
