Tenure extension

Letter December 03, 2019
Compliance with the constitution and the law was sine qua non before extending the tenure for three years

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan adjured the government on Thursday, while extending the COAS tenure for six months, to enact a new legislation propelling the matter towards parliament. The man who filed the petition in the court is advocate Riaz Rahi. The PM’s decision for the extension kept the country on tenterhook. “Haste is waste” is true but alarming and discouraging sometimes. Compliance with the constitution and the law was sine qua non before extending the tenure for three years. Did PM Khan spring a surprise? It has been frequent; politicians in authority seem to be misusing their power. Khan will soon proclaim a shoddy decision undermining the progress and development of Pakistan and the Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
