NA panel tells CDA to resolve pending salaries issue of janitorial workers

Standing Committee on House and Library recommends ministry of finance to release funds to CDA in time

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly's Standing Committee on House and Library on Tuesday directed Capital Development Authority (CDA) to take necessary measures to resolve the salary matter of workers hired for janitorial services, besides recommending the ministry of finance to release funds to CDA timely.

The committee considered the report submitted by the departments concerned on the status of its previous recommendations in its fourth meeting held here under the Chairmanship of Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri.

The committee approved the previous minutes of the meeting held on October 14.

The committee considered the issues relating to the maintenance of Parliament Lodges and appointed a sub-committee under the convener ship of Member National Assembly Farrukh Habib, to look into the matters relating to the issues of the maintenance of Parliament Lodges.            The committee considered the issues relating to the allotment/possessions of the plots to the members of the National Assembly Secretariat Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NASECHS).

The committee directed the president, Federal Employees Cooperative Housing Society (FECHS) to submit required documents within two days to the CDA for issuance of Lay Out Plan (LOP) by the CDA.

The committee also directed the chief commissioner to issue direction to the quarters concerned for demarcation of land of NASCHS. The said demarcation should be done within seven days under the report to the Committee, it added.

MNAs including Kishwer Zehra, Farrukh Habib, Wajiha Akram, Aliya Kamran, Munawara Bibi, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Romina  Khurshid Alam, and  Musarrat Rafique Mahesar attended the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Senior Officers of National Assembly Secretariat, Ministry of Interior, CDA, and Islamabad chief commissioner.

CDA recovers land

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has recovered 840 acres of land in Islamabad from the land grabbers during the period between September, 2018 and September, 2019.

The official source in the Ministry of Interior said that Prime Minister Imran Khan directed that a crackdown be launched against those involved in illegal occupation of people's lands in Islamabad and its suburbs.

Following directions of the prime minister, he said that a massive operation was launched against land grabbers and a total of 840 acres of land had been recovered from the land grabbers from September, 2018 to September, 2019.

He said that efforts were still underway for strict action against those involved in land grabbing activities in the federal capital.

He said that land was retrieved from land grabbers on Kashmir Highway, Sector G-12, Nullah Korang, GT Road Tarnol, Bahria Enclave - Kuri Road,  Botanical Garden, Sector E-12, Quaid-i-Azam University land, Blue Area, Mauve Area, Margalla Road and near King Hammad Medical University Malpur.

The land grabbers were being dealt with strictly in accordance with provisions contained in CDA Ordinance-1960 and other applicable laws besides registration of FIRs in police station concerned, the source said.

He said that Rs1.740 million had been collected on account of fine from these land grabbers while the retrieved land will be utilised as per actual master plan of Islamabad.

Three projects on cards

CDA management has tasked the formation concerned to complete draft of three major projects for the upcoming CDA-DWP meeting to be held in December.

Rawal Dam Chowk PC-1 is also to be placed in the next meeting. Earlier CDA had approved PC-II for the project, official sources said.

He said, CDA design and engineering team is in process of completion of the design through its in-house capacity thereby saving several million rupees of the authority.

Development of Sector I-12 sector is also to be placed in the development working party meeting, he informed adding, recently the revised layout has been approved by CDA.

The project was long delayed on various technicalities.
