Agriculture: Former minister for more productivity

Fair use of national resources is the responsibility of the government and speeches - seminars cannot change policies

LAHORE: Former Foreign Minister and Farmers Associates of Pakistan Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that food scarcity is a major issue facing the country and urged the government to increase agriculture productivity at a seminar regarding the agriculture and fertiliser industry held on Friday. “Fair use of national resources is the responsibility of the government and speeches and seminars cannot change policies,” he added. He called for a joint organisation of farmers and the fertiliser industry so that the government could understand their problems. “Agriculture has become a provincial responsibility after the 18th constitutional amendment but the farmers and fertilizer companies will have to discuss the gas issue with the federal government,” he added.
