AIDs control campaign begins in Quetta

QUETTA: A rally was organised in Quetta in collaboration with UNICEF, Socio Pak and the Legends Society as part of a ten-day campaign in connection with World AIDS Day, under the Balochistan AIDS Control Program.

Cyclists attended the rally and marched through the various roads of city.  The students from various schools, representatives of AIDS Control Network, workers and people from all walks of life attended the parade led by Provincial AIDS Control Program Dr Afzal Khan Zarkon, Dr Aman Ullah and Dr Saadullah.

While addressing the participants of the rally, CEO Socio Pak Dr Amanullah Kakar NGO Coordinator of AIDS Control Program Dr Mumtaz Magsi, Dr Afzal Zarkoon and other speakers said that AIDS Awareness campaign in Balochistan will be extended all over the province, as AIDS outbreak is spreading due to lack of awareness and precautionary measures in the province.

"The majority of the people still do not know about AIDS and this is why many are suffering from the outbreak," coordinator AIDS control program said and announced that on December 1, a festival will also be organised at Liaquat Park in Quetta.  During the festival, numerous stalls will be set up for the youth and families.

He said more than 1,300 patients of AIDs have been registered in Balochistan, while more than five thousands are suspected cases.

"In last few days,  at least 20,000 people were screened in four districts of the province," coordinator AIDS control program informed.
