In Panjgur, the streets of the city have become a source of misery for the citizens. The city's roads and bazaars, including the vegetable market have been ravaged by the recent downpour.
The traders have strongly criticised the municipal committees which they say appear to be ‘non-operational and negligent’ in handling the crisis. According to details, the city's roads and bazaar have been flooded with mess due to the heavy rains in Panjgur yesterday.
The residents are suffering from severe problems due to the accumulation of water and mud on the roads, in bazaars and the city’s markets. The internal roads of the bazars as well as Sabzi Mandi, Iqbal Hasan Dost market and Al-Habib Road are severely affected by the rains as water is accumulated to the level of knees, creating problems for the shopkeepers and pedestrians.
A local bazaar and its adjoining areas eagerly await help and assistance from the municipal committees. The traders of the market have expressed strong concern over the situation after the rains. They lamented that people cannot enter or move in the markets for weeks when it rains in Panjgur.
Due to water and mud, citizens are unable to enter the market. As a result, business community and buyers are also facing problems, they said.
The citizens demanded the municipal committees improve their efficiency and ensure relief to the masses.
Torrential rains hit many parts of Balochistan, including provincial capital Quetta, on Friday turning the weather chilly.
Predicted by Regional Meteorological Department, the rains hit many parts of the province including Quetta, Panjgur, Naushki, Dalbandin, Pishin, Chaman, Muslim Bagh, Khuzdar, Mastung, Kalat, Ziarat and Gwadar.
Rains and chilly winds forced many people to stay inside their homes.
Earlier, Balochistan Chief Minister vowed cleanliness in Quetta during rains. However, rain water along with sewerage water flooded in streets and roads of the provincial capital creating difficulties for passersby and vehicles to move.
Complaining about cleanliness, a resident said, “Since last rainy season the provincial government announced to take notice of Quetta’s cleanliness. However, we don’t see any implementation today.”
Many electric feeders across the province remained tripped causing breakdown of electricity in many parts of Quetta for 14 hours.
The Meteorological Department predicted that the torrential rains would be continued in the province for next 24 hours including Quetta.
In cold weather, low gas pressure causing increased trouble and woes for the masses.
Residents of various towns including Joint Road, Sariab Road, Qumbrani Road and Pashtoonabad complained of low gas pressure.
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal also directed Commissioner Makran Division, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and other relevant departments to be fully prepared to effectively deal with any emergency situation due to rain in Makran Division.
