Khan was named in two cases registered after a sub-committee formed by the Interior Secretary to look in to a fraud and embezzlement case in which Khan, along with others usurped nearly Rs6 billion worth of land.
Express 24/7 correspondent Sabur Ali Syed said that Khan had managed to get interim bail in the NPF land scam case, however he was still absconding in a second FIR registered against him by a school teacher for which he had been arrested.
He had been arrested on Friday evening, and as the police took him to Shalimar police station, they were attacked by Khan's supporters, who managed to wrest his custody from the police and fled the scene.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik took notice of the attack and and ordered Islamabad police to take action against the attackers.
He ordered the Deputy Commissioner to conduct an inquiry, and for the arrest of the superintendent and station house officer of Shalimar police station.
Rana Sanaullah says no PML-N supporter involved
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that "criminals" had attacked the police party in Islamabad before spiriting away MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan.
Speaking via telephone to Express 24/7, he said that the criminals ought to be caught and brought to book.
While terming it conspiracy against the PML-N and the MNA, Sanaullah said that it remained to be seen whether Khan too was a victim of this group of criminals or if he had connived with them.
He said that if it was discovered that Khan was responsible for his escape, the PML-N would take strict disciplinary action against him.
The law minister went on to say that the party had advised Khan to face law and clear his name in court.
100 or so men attacked police party: IG
Islamabad IG addressing the media after the incident said that cases had been registered against those responsible as a terrorist attack.
He lamented how the guardians of law were today breaking the law for their own benefit.
He said police was looking for the absconding MNA and those who had helped him, while cases of negligence against the superintendent, and station house officer (SHO) of Shalimar police station would also be filed.
The IG said that there were a hundred or so of Khan's supporters who assaulted the police party in which two police officers got injured.
FIA arrests Anjum Aqeel
The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan on charges of fraud from Islamabad on Friday.
According to sources Anjum Aqeel, who has been implicated in the NPF land scam, was arrested following a raid conducted by the FIA. Two FIRs had already been registered against him.
An FIR was registered against him in Shalimar police station under article 409 and arrest warrants were also issued against him after a sub-committee formed by the Interior secretary wrote to IGP Islamabad.
Aqeel is implicated in a fraud case in National Police Foundation in which he, as the proprietor of Land Linkers, two former IGPs as well as former managing director (MD) of the National Police Foundation (NPF) for embezzling Rs6 billion worth of land.
His name had also been added to the Exit Control List.
Aqeel to defend his name
Fearing arrest, the MNA had conducted a press conference last Saturday in which he had demanded the creation of a judicial commission to investigate the scam and vowed to defend his innocence.
He said that he had cleared the air with NPF after striking a settlement deal. This he termed was not illegal.
Despite this, two FIRs had been registered against him. One with the FIA, and one in Shalimar police station.
Khan said that police had already raided his house. And that he was being made the target of politically motivated charges.

He was released from the Police Custody by his political and non political colleagues including his brother and PML-N is trying to prove him innocent by saying that Aqil is forced to run away. Shame on the Committee formed by Nawaz Shareef. First of all what is sense to form a committee. Was the footage shown are not enough to believe what he did? Mrs Rana of PML-N MPA who stole credit cards, was punished immediately without any enquiry committee and also No committee was formed before action against PML-n MNA from RWP. Aqil Anjum should be punished severly for attacking on Police Station and running away. I wonder why he was allowed to stay in Hospital overnight and during police custody under which rules PML-N committee investigated him. It means PML has influence in judiciary.
@Uza Syed: Don't talk rubbish !! Has anybody been fired before in Pakistan, apart from possibly lowly civil servant???
Guys , its not about any one Political Party, its an Disease that has taken over every single Political Party in Pakistan, and the Electorate have Neglected their Responsibility by electing such people in Office, hence the state the Country is in at present!!
@Nawaz Shareef Gonglu: Yeah, damn right, "Shame on Gonglu and his retarded followers!!!". Shame on this not so Shareef. THe CM and his Law Minister must be fired, the must be held responsible for this crime because without their crminal collusion this just could not happen.
@Sam: Now that explains all the BS you have throwing around, especially when you have a guy as talented as Zardari as President, who needs any help!!!!
Since it is PMLN there will be no suo moto.
@All BS: "Everone knows our great leader Mian Nawaz Sharif will never tolerate fraud and always stands for rule of law"
Joke of the day!
Wonders never cease. Never a dull moment!
@Yousaf:
are u crazy like it or not PPP will be re-elected... iv neve been a PPP supporter but thats the sad truth.. they will be re-elected
Stop it!! they are going to be the next elected government and you should not talk dirty about them.
Many of you or your families will vote for PML(N).....
the ppl who actually caught helping other members to free MNA should be beaten up like hell..so they should know what is LAW...they should not be taken to proper so called court.
I am amazed to see that he was detained for the moment being a MNA. Unlike other parts of country.
A dakoo get away with his other daakoos from the custody of dakooss. What a story
Champions of rule of law & justice .... always comes up with such dirty acts ... Actions speaks louder than words!
@H.A. Khan: What is the function of interior ministry? Whether one likes it or not, he is the interior minisiter of Pakistan. Regards, Mirza
These rightwing goons of PML-N do not care about the laws. Those laws are against other people. Rana Sana can talk about murder of his political opponent and he is still out making statements. To those liars who support PML-N blindly, this MNA has admitted committing frauds and returned some money. He is no angle, just an arrogant, corrupt thief. Thanks to the coming elections, PML-N did not attack the courts where he is being tried. Otherwise their history of “respecting” the law is most shameless in Pakistan’s history. Why is he not tried in Sind HC, whereas most Sindhi politicians are tried in Punjab HC and SC to start with? PML-N shamelessly talks against Moonis Elahi, but this goon is no different. We are talking about billions and not chump change. He should have been hounded and pounded by the SC CJ, just like Elahi. The fact is they were all together and were the Qabza group. Changing parties or adding a different letter at the end of the names does not change their character. I am glad that it is all coming out before the next elections. This criminal should be in jail without bail after this blatant act of terrorism. Time for CJ to show that he is fair, neutral and strict with all law breakers and not just a few.
catch me if you can
The common man should protest till this guy gets as much justice as the injustices meted out to the common man every single day, the blame solely resting on all corrupt officials.
For once Rana Sanaullah spoke the truth. They WERE criminals, trying to save one of their own.
@All BS: Wake up! Remember the same party attacked the Supreme Court. They never tolerate others but sermonise others.
Stop bickering about politicians. They are and will remain the same forever, its the citizens who have to stand up and take control of things.
Anjum Aqeel. Your name looks good. Wish if ur actions reflected the same. Shame Shame!
Might is right, but he was wrong not right including the minister.
This is a true face of PML-N. They are also not innocent. Everyone knows what they will do after coming into power. To remind just see what they did in past: attacked supreme court and print media to name a few examples.
Shame on Gonglu and his retarded followers!!!
Now tell me why does Rehman Malik have to get involved in evry thing that happens in the country?
where would Pakistan be without him?. makes one wonder....
this man stole my parents retirement savings in the khudadad heights scam and he gets just walk away. shame on you pml (n). shame on pakistan and more importantly shame on you nawaz sharif.
@Realist.: in a different case
There is no fraud, all lies to damage PMLN by rehman dakait. Everone knows our great leader Mian Nawaz Sharif will never tolerate fraud and always stands for rule of law
It is really unfortunate that in Pakistan, legislators who are the lawmakers always think themselves that they are above the law.
There are number of such precedents that the lawmakers are the one who are the first to break the law.
How can one expect from an ordinary citizen of Pakistan to become a law abiding citizen?
This is prime example of good governance of Punjab CM. this is unbearable offence. Only few days back the did ferocious aerial firing and harassed the whole city
What did one expect?? did anyone seriously believe that likes of this Guy would have ever stood trial and be convicted, let alone be sentenced ??? The System is not only flawed, but its terminal !!! Its up to the very people, who elect them, that has to act to solve this problems !!!
My name is Khan and I am not a criminal :)
he was on 'BAIL' right ? then why this arrest?
This is a disaster in Pakistan that people tend to protect their political ideals no matter how serious crimes they commit.
