Exhibition on Japanese culture, street life opens at PNCA

ISLAMABAD: Residents of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi were transported onto the streets of Tokyo as an exhibition of photographs by Pakistan photographers on Japan opened at the National Art Gallery of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Thursday.

The exhibition ‘Japan -through the lens of Pakistani photographers’ features around 30 images captured by six photographic affiliates of the Photographic Society of Pakistan (PSP) who had visited Japan earlier this year. The photographers had exhibited their picturesque photographs of Pakistan at the Photo Festival 2019 in Tokyo. They also captured daily life in Japan, particularly the capital Tokyo.

The exhibition is part of cultural activities organized by the Japanese embassy in Islamabad while celebrating ‘A Month of Japanese Culture’.

Yusuke Shindo, Japanese Embassy Charge’ d’ Affaires, while inaugurating the exhibition, said that the purpose of showcasing these photographs in Islamabad was to introduce locals to various aspects of modern life in Japan.

“These pictures provide you with new aspects of life in Japan. The creativity and the artistic ability of the photographers are also on display and shows different socio-cultural scenes of life in modern Japan,” he said, adding that street life of Tokyo can be visually experienced.

He also emphasized upon the need for further strengthening the people-to-people contacts between Japan and Pakistan for better understand each other’s culture.

Photographic Society of Pakistan President Masood Ahmed Khan thanked the Japanese embassy for providing them with an opportunity to introduce Tokyo through their images to people in Pakistan.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until November 30.

Exhibit on Baba Guru Nanak

Around 50 rare photographs and quotations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikh religion, opened on Thursday at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) to mark his 550th birth anniversary.

The exhibition, organised under the auspices of Punjab Council of the Arts-Rawalpindi, was inaugurated by a social worker and inter-faith harmony activist Sardar Nadhan Singh along with Pir Azmatullah Sultan and RAC Director Waqar Ahmed.

Singh said that Baba Guru Nanak always delivered the message of peace and harmony. He added that it was necessary to promote his teachings for the true promotion of religious harmony.

Sultan said that it was essential to respect all religions of the world to establish peace and tolerance.

The exhibition will be remain open until Monday.
