PTI MPA seeks equal treatment of inmates
Says terminally ill patients in Pakistani jails should be given the same facilities as Nawaz
KARACHI:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s MPA Arsalan Taj has written a letter to President Arif Alvi, seeking equal treatment of inmates in Pakistani jails, especially those suffering from medical conditions.
The letter reads, “After a recent precedent has been set by the Government of Pakistan to allow a convicted person, Mr Nawaz Sharif, to travel abroad for his medical treatment, I seek your office to allow all the inmates with severe medical conditions, especially terminally ill patients in Pakistani jails, to be given the same facilities.”
Quoting figures from a record presented to the Sindh Assembly, Taj has stated in the letter that over a span of three years, from 2014 to 2017, as many as 90 prisoners died in the jails of Sindh due to lack of medical facilities.
He has moved the president to ensure that all inmates are treated equally.
