Smog in Lahore

Letter November 18, 2019
What is frightening to think of is that the poor are not able to do anything

TURBAT: Air pollution becomes a proper cause of lung disease and heart problems. Unfortunately, the people of Lahore are now under the threat of serious illness due to a thick smog. People face difficulties in breathing since the air is contaminated with harmful vapours which are hazardous to human health. People breathe the smog air, which goes to the lungs and completely destroys the respiratory system. The toxins have now entered the body and remain there, slowing causing deterioration. Through the circulatory system the air goes to the heart which damages the veins and arteries, in turn leading to the destruction of the circulatory system. Children are getting affected by the toxic air, for they have a weak immune system. But the elderly people also cannot cope with smog for a long, because the human immune system has a limit of disease prevention. This also has the effect on human rights since every human has the right to live a peaceful and healthy life. However, the citizens of Lahore are living a dreadful life. What is more frightening to think of is that the poor are not able to do anything. They have neither the resources to somehow prevent themselves from being affected by the smog nor do they have enough money for their treatment if they get sick.

I request the human rights authorities and health authorities to provide materials to people to prevent them from the ill-effects of smog.
