However, some shops were still open functioning in some cities and towns of upper Sindh.
On Thursday morning, incensed groups of MQM workers, armed with wooden sticks and rocks, rallied in different localities of the city, including New Goth, Jinnah Chowk and Racecourse road. They protested by burning tyres on the main roads, causing a suspension of traffic moving between Sukkur and Rohri.
Consequently, all main business centers and bazaars remained shut to avoid loss of property and there was hardly any traffic moving on the roads.
The MQM ladies wing also marched from Jinnah Chowk to Bunder road, shouting slogans against Zulfikar Mirza. At Bundar road, they defiantly torched the effigy of the senior minister. However, no untoward incident was reported during this protest.
In Ghotki, some MQM workers led by zonal in charge Nooruddin Zangi and Wazir Ahmed Ghoto organised a protest rally from Station road and other main roads of the city.
The protesters staged a demonstration after reaching at Shahi Bazaar. However business activities throughout the district continued as usual.
In Jacobabad, police raided the MQM head office and arrested two party workers Fida Kanrani and Zaheer Jakhrani, while others present managed to escaped.
