Police in Mirpur has beefed up security and launched a campaign against vehicles with tinted glasses, Ghulam Akbar, Senior Superintendant Police (SSP) Mirpur, said on Thursday. Akbar told media that is police is “vigilantly monitoring vehicles” at all entry points including Mangla, Jatlan and Dhangalli to ward off threats to law and order. Mirpur, an affluent district, is considered to be one of the most peaceful areas of the country, though of late it has witnessed a sharp increase in crime rate. Akbar, a native of the district, was posted in Mirpur as SSP a few months back. He said that cooperation and coordination of the law-abiding civil society to the police was imperative to wipe out criminals from the area. He added that police have also started patrolling main roads of the district. The SSP said the police is intensifying its campaign against vehicles with tinted glasses and suspicious registration numbers. All such vehicles will be compounded, he added.
