Avoid stepping on the wrong foot

We fail to understand what Maulana Fazlur Rehman is trying to achieve by creating troubles for the common people

LAHORE: The JUI-F leadership is seriously and sincerely advised to avoid stepping on the wrong foot. They can keep protesting as long as they do not give their protest an ugly turn.

After the sit- in in the federal capital proved inconsequential, they are now trying to give a rather ugly turn to their protest by blocking major highways throughout the country for the acceptance of their demand for the PM’s resignation, paving the way for mid-term general elections.

According to reports on the electronic media, they have already blocked a highway in Balochistan by creating obstructions thus stopping transit trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, besides blocking the way for hundreds of passenger buses, cars and trucks on roads.

They are resorting to unconstitutional steps without realising that this is only creating problems for hundreds of people. By blocking the supply lines of essential daily use items roads between major and small cities and towns across the country will only cause problems and difficulties for the common. There are already a lot of problem that the people have to face in this country and this will just frustrate them more. People had rejected the JUI-F in the last general elections and these activities would add to the dislike of them.

Prior to the Azadi March, roads were blocked by the provincial governments and the superior courts had to get them cleared. The superior courts are requested to take up a suo-motto notice so that more activities do not cause greater difficulties for the people.

We fail to understand what Maulana Fazlur Rehman is trying to achieve by creating troubles for the common people. We are already facing a lot of troubles. We are facing inflation and price rise. Anti-rabies vaccines are not available in many places of the country. Drug prices keep on rising. There is a high rate of unemployment in the country. Yet, the JUI-F has nothing to do except to aim at toppling the government. Is the Maulana out in the field to protect the corrupt politicians and government officials?
