DERA GHAZI KHAN: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly sold into marriage to a Multan resident, Bahadur Shah, who forced her into prostitution, the girl told the Dera Ghazi Khan district police officer on Wednesday. She accused a police constable, Ghulam Ali, of soliciting the marriage. She said the man was a neighbour of her sister in whose house she had been living after the last year’s floods that washed away her home. She said the man persuaded her sister that he had some decent proposals. “We were helpless. My sister thought it would be best for me to get married,” he said. She  said she ran away from her husband’s house in Multan. Constable Ali rejected the allegation. SHO Rana Iqbal said no one had yet approached him for registration of an FIR.

Are the police not their for the benifit of the people? Then why is it that a FIR has to be lodged before any investigation can take place.
