ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon replace conventional traffic signals installed on Kashmir Highway with a new, smart traffic signal system.
The smart signals will be able to analyses the volume of vehicles on the road at any given time. For this purpose, the smart signals will have optical sensors. The signal will then change the intervals between the red, yellow and green lights to adjust for the traffic volume.
Initially, traffic signals installed along the Kashmir Highway from Sector G-7 to G-11 will be replaced with the new signals. If proven successful, traffic signals installed on all major avenues and intersections of the city will be replaced by the smart signals. Tenders in this regard have been issued.
It is hoped that if the system works optimally, it will decrease the need for physical intervention on the Kashmir Highway.
