5 corrupt officers suspended, forcibly retired

More than Rs10 million also recovered from employees involved in corruption and looting

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Local Government Department on Wednesday said that it has forcibly retired or suspended as many as five officers who were found to be involved in corrupt practices.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the department said that it has initiated stern action against corrupt officers following directives from K-P Local Government Minister Shahram Khan Tarkai.

Later, Tarakai said that they had recovered more than Rs10 million from employees involved in corruption and looting.

He added that they have also blacklisted some 32 contractors for corruption. The Local Council Board, a subsidiary of the department, has sent two Tax Recovery Clerks of Town Municipal Authority (TMA) Katlang on forced retirement for defrauding property taxes.
