NICVD’s chest pain unit to be established in Malir

Shortage of doctors at hospitals to be resolved soon, says health minister

KARACHI: Sindh Human Settlements Minister Ghulam Murtaza Baloch has said that a chest pain unit (CPU) of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) will be established in Malir District, which will help the residents of the district in availing better health services.

The decision for the establishment of the CPU was taken during a meeting chaired by Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by MPAs elected on Malir District's seats and municipal corporation representatives. Addressing the meeting, Pechuho assured the participants that a unit of NICVD's CPU will be established near Manzil Pump. Moreover, she said that the problem pertaining to the shortage of doctors at the hospitals and healthcare centres of the district will be resolved soon.

Speaking at the meeting, Baloch said, "The Sindh government believes in providing healthcare facilities at people's doorstep."

The participants of the meeting expressed concerns over the poor performance of HANDS, a non-governmental organisation. Addressing their complaints, Pechuho directed the health additional secretary to issue a show-cause notice to HANDS CEO and form a team to investigate the matter. Moreover, the provincial health minister directed the health additional secretary to appoint one doctor for each hospital and dispensary in Malir.

It was also decided in the meeting to build a boundary wall around the 5-acre plot on the National Highway, allocated for the construction of a hospital in Gulshan-e-Hadid.
