Abolition of secularism

Instead of following in the footsteps of their predecessors India’s trajectory is being shaped by Savarkar, Golwalkar

CHINIOT: A country which proclaims itself the largest democracy and a secular state has shrouded into a fascist Hindutava persuasion. Instead of following in the footsteps of their predecessors like Nehru and Gandhi, the country’s trajectory is being shaped by Savarkar and Golwalkar. After Narendar Modi came to power, the country has been transformed exclusively into a Hindu rashtra, where minorities especially Muslims are doomed to perish. The Indian Supreme Court verdicts over petitions against revocation of article 370-which grants special status to Kashmir- and Ayodhya case reflect the dismal plight of minorities in India who have neither political nor constitutional protection against outrage of extremism.

On the opposite side Pakistan not only opened Kartarpur Corridor to welcome the Sikh community to one of their holiest places, but also waived passport condition and visa fee for two days. Now time has come for both countries to put aside hatred and animosity and make both countries a diverse and safe place to live for minorities.
