KARACHI:

Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture (IVSAA) graduate Manizhe Ali launched her line of silver jewellery at Alle’nora salon in Karachi on Wednesday, July 13.

Ali works primarily with silver and semi-precious stones, but also enjoys working with rubies and sapphires, albeit not every expensive ones. One can find a pair of earrings for Rs900 and a complete set won’t cross Rs30,000.

Ali managed to bring about a fusion in her work and these pieces can easily be worn with any outfit and any style. “My jewellery is not distinctly Asian. Just like we, as a nation, are diverse, so is my jewellery. The pieces are a mix of East and West.”

Manizhe is currently based in Berlin, Germany, where she is pursuing a Masters degree in Visual and Media Anthropology. She says that she hardly has any time to come up with designs but keeps drawing everything that comes to mind on scraps of paper. The artist is especially inspired by nature; hence many of the silver pieces depict birds.

The most popular pieces on display were pendants which had faces carved into them. “These were carved on cow bone from Bali. I got them and designed the silver pendant around them,” said Ali.

The young designer said that this, for her, is not a money-making commercial business, but a passion as she loves working with and designing silver jewellery. It is for this reason she designs for individual customers, and only if she can meet the requisite desires of her clients.
