Bringing about change in Pakistan

Letter July 14, 2011
I do agree on most of the issues that Mustafa Kamal talks about but change is not going to come overnight.

LONDON: This is with reference to Syed Mustafa Kamal’s article of July 14 titled “Flaws in US perceptions of Pakistan’s ‘democracy’”. I do agree on most of the issues that the writer talks about but change is not going to come overnight just because his leader (and I also agree with him) says so.

The fact is that the writer was nazim of Karachi during the time of the current government as well as the previous one and yet failed to achieve anything significant in terms of political and social reforms in Pakistan.

Another issue with the writer’s party has to do with its roots. It came into existence on the issue of ethnicity and though later it changed its name, that label has not gone away. Personally, I don’t really care about who comes to power in Pakistan as long as they are loyal to the country and are not corrupt.
