Youth urged to take inspiration from Iqbal

Poet of the East honoured on 142nd birthday

Speakers at an inaugural function held here Monday to mark Iqbal Day celebrations emphasised on inclusion of poetry and thought provoking messages of our national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal in the academic syllabus for all levels of education.In the function held at Aiwan-i-Quaid by Nazariya Pakistan Council (NPC), the speakers said nations are developed through syllabus and it is very unfortunate that Iqbal's messages and poetry are being neglected by the authorities while designing the syllabus.

In a lecture on "Asr-i-Hazir mein Fikr-i-Iqbal ki Manwiyut", prominent scholar, Prof Dr Ayub Sabir underlined the need to make Fikr-i-Iqbal as a source of intellectual awareness.

"It was Iqbal who awakened the people of subcontinent from slumber through his poetry and revive the urge for independence in them," they said.

Senior Vice Chairman of council, Mian Muhammad Javed said such events to promote Iqbal teachings should be arranged regularly to educate the younger generation about the universal thoughts of Iqbal.

On 142nd birth anniversary of Dr Iqbal, the AIOU Vice Chancellor said that Iqbal’s message is most inspiring for the young generation to work hard for a prosperous future. It is most relevant for all times to come to cope with the socio-economic challenges.

According to Dr Samina Awan, Dean Social Sciences and chairman department of Iqbaliyat, the University has planned to hold national and international-level conferences on regular basis to spread the message of Dr Muhammad Iqbal.

While speaking at a Mushaira in memory of Allama Iqbal, the Leader of the House in Senate Syed Shibli Faraz said that Radio Pakistan has been playing a pivotal role in promoting national values of the country. Speaking at National Broadcasting House Islamabad Faraz said that such literary events were crucial to bridge the gap between the new and the older generations. Radio Pakistan Director General Samina Waqar said that Radio Pakistan was a voice of Pakistani culture and literature and was working towards positive transformation of our thoughts. Through this voice, we can bring about positive changes in the society, she said, adding that poetry events like would also be conducted in other parts of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. Renowned poets of the country in their recitals paid tribute to Allama Iqbal on his birth anniversary.
