Nawaz's health is deteriorating: Maryam

Says former premier should be sent abroad for treatment immediately

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Friday said that Nawaz Sharif’s health was deteriorating rapidly and should be sent abroad for treatment immediately.

Maryam appeared before the court for Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and submitted an application for her father's absence.

The accountability court also extended judicial remand of Yousuf Abbas till November 22 and ordered the PML-N vice president to appear in court - alongside her father - on the same date.

Addressing journalists outside the court, Maryam stated that Nawaz Sharif's health condition is deteriorating rapidly and should be sent abroad for treatment.

“His platelet count is decreasing daily. The day before yesterday it was 28,000 and yesterday it was 22,000. Today it’s 20,000 and doctors have said it’s reached dangerous levels. We’ve exhausted all available options. The cause is still not diagnosed.

“I can’t travel immediately because the government has my passport. It’ll be very difficult for me if my father goes abroad and I can’t travel with him. But if Mian Sahab can go anywhere in the world and get his treatment then he should avail it immediately," she said.

The PML-N vice president also said her complete focus is on her father, adding that "Politics will remain forever but parents do not. I lost my mother a year ago, now my complete focus is on Mian Sahab."

Nawaz must fly abroad for medical treatment: PML-N

On Thursday, PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that doctors have informed the former premier that they have exhausted all available options and that he now urgently needs to fly abroad for further treatment.

“Doctors have declared Mian Sahib’s [Nawaz’s] state as extremely critical. Despite all possible treatments in Pakistan, his condition is not improving and his platelet level is not stabilizing,” Marriyum said.

She said the doctors’ team looking after Nawaz held an emergency meeting after his platelet count dropped to dangerous levels again. The doctors have informed Nawaz that they cannot further increase the dose of any of his medicines given their side effects.
