Traffic problems amid Azadi March

Letter November 07, 2019
Azadi March is not only costing commuters more money but causing traffic jams in the remaining open routes

RAWALPINDI: Traffic on Saddar, Raja bazaar, Murree road and other main city roads is being badly affected, because of Maulana Fazl’s Azadi March. Most of the roads in Islamabad are blocked and that’s why people travelling from Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been using alternative routes provided by the traffic police. This is causing many traffic jams persisting for many hours. Mobility is being badly affected in these areas.

The Metro bus service has also been affected. It starts from Saddar terminal in Rawalpindi and ends at the Pak secretariat terminal in Islamabad. Commuters that travel along these routes now need alternative means of travelling. This is not only costing commuters more money but causing traffic jams in the remaining open routes. Multiple places including academic institutions, business centres and industrial areas are being affected by this. It is important for people to take into account the time of the day they are travelling because depending on the time there may be less or more traffic, making it a bit easier for them.

I wish to draw the attention of the authorities to resolve this matter at the earliest.
