Shafqat Amanat Ali, Ali Sethi to perform at Faiz International Festival

The festival will also pay tribute to Baba Guru Nanak on the occasion of his birthday

LAHORE: Preparations for the three-day Faiz International Festival 2019 are in full swing in Lahore,with the ceremony scheduled to be held between November 15 and November 17, 2019. The venue has been locked in at Alhamra Hall, Mall Road.

Delegates have started arriving from various countries to witness the festivities, given the event will also focus on Baba Guru Nanak’s 550th birthday. The festival’s administration also shared details of the event, which is one of the most awaited extravaganzas every year. It features an amalgamation of music, art and literature, bringing forth theatre performances, musical evenings, film shows, art exhibitions, discussions, folk nights and much more.

Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s daughter, Muneeza Hashmi, is the Chairperson of the Board of Governors Lahore Arts Council, owing to which she is looking over the preparations.

Talking to The Express Tribune, she said, “The Faiz International Festival has wonderful traditions and many delegates from abroad are also attending it this year. It will also pay tribute to Baba Guru Nanak on the occasion of his birthday. We are expecting it will be better than the last, with new faces showing up to the event."

Local showbiz personalities will also be in attendance. Faiz’s second daughter, Saleema Hashmi will accompany Muneeza at the event’s inauguration, along with foreign guests. The opening ceremony is currently scheduled for 4pm on November 15.

The first exhibition to take place will be ‘Aad Sach Jagaad Sach’ which will centre on the historical and religious services of Baba Guru Nanak, with Sikh delegates flying in from six countries to attend the event. Besides this, government officials have also been invited to the occasion.

The first evening will witness the magic of vocalist Ali Sethi playing the song Gullon Main Rang Bharay, while Ajoka Theatre will also perform its play Saira and Maira.

The second and the most happening day of the festival will pay tribute to Faiz himself, elucidating his work and commemorating his poetry with performances by poet Amjad Islam Amjad and actor Adeel Hashmi also making their way to the stage. Classical dance performances will be showcased followed by sessions with actor Ahsan Khan and film-maker Jami. Shafqat Amanat Ali will perform on November 16.

As for the last day, a performance by Laal the band, qawali and a closing ceremony will also be held. All performances, theatre plays and talk shows are open for the general public. However, Zia Mohyeddin, Ali, Adeel and Farah Yasmeen's performances are for invitees only.
