K-P govt to build Rs800m sports complex in Mohmand

SHABQADAR: The provincial government aims to build an Rs800 million sports complex in Mohmand as part of the government’s efforts to develop sports infrastructure in the newly-merged tribal districts.

This was stated by sports director for the erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata) Nawaz Khan while inaugurating a sports festival at the Captain Roohullah Shaheed Sports Stadium in Ghallanai, the headquarters of Mohmand Tribal District on Tuesday.

Officials of Mohmand district administration and private school students participated in the event.

Nawaz said that the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has allocated Rs7.5 billion for developing sports infrastructure in the newly merged tribal districts. Moreover, he said that Rs3 billion will be spent on different sporting events in the province this year to allow the hidden sporting talents of the tribal youth to.

He further said that the tribal area has suffered militancy in the past and now, after the restoration of peace and merger with K-P, the government wants to develop these districts.

As many as 22 private schools will show their talents in various indoor and outdoor games such as athletics, cricket, volleyball and football in the event which has been organised by the Mohmand Sports Department. The event will continue until November 18.
