WATCH: In dramatic rescue, California transit worker saves man from oncoming train

The oncoming train was just a hair's breath away when the rescue occurred

A California rapid transit employee John O'Connor is being praised for his heroic act of rescuing a man who fell onto train tracks.

The dramatic rescue that took place at the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station was caught on camera by a passenger, Tony Badilla.

Speaking to CNN. Badilla said, "As the train approached, I sat up from my seat and the crowd turned their attention to the train, I heard a commotion to my left just as the train arrived and witnessed the BART worker physically bring the man to the ground, both falling to the deck safely as the train breezed by."

"The crowd was shocked at just how close of a call it was, and the man was rattled," he added.

O'Connor said that he saw the man fall onto the track in his peripheral vision. The oncoming train was just about 60-feet away when the incident occurred.

" I thought the train was going to cut him half honestly, I didn't want to see this guy die."

The two men, both shaken up, but unhurt, shared an emotional hug right afterward.
