Two injured in Pindi cylinder blast

RAWALPINDI: A gas cylinder combusted explosively in Rawalpindi on Monday leaving two people with severe burn wounds.

The incident took place at a suspected illegal gas decanting store within the remits of the Civil Lines police station.

The victims were rushed to the burns unit at the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) for treatment.

A spokesperson for the Rescue 1122 said that an unauthorized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) filling station was operating in the Jhanda Chichi area. On Monday, as a cylinder was being filled, it exploded and set the victims and the shop on fire.

Upon receiving the complaint, Rescue 1122 said their teams rushed to the spot. They put out the fire and shifted the two injured people, identified as 46-year-old Ghulam Hussain and 17-year-old Shahzaib Nasir, to the hospital.

Doctors at the burns unit of HFH described the condition of both victims as out of danger however, they said that both had suffered burns on several parts of their body in the incident.

The rescue official claimed that the damage suffered could have been greater but owing to their swift response, it was limited to just Rs3,000.

Meanwhile, police officials said that they are investigating the incident and how the station was established in a residential area.
