KARACHI: Cyclone Maha, which is currently labelled as a category II storm, is likely to gain intensity and become a category III storm today.

According to the 10th advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the storm was 770 kilometers away from Karachi, while the winds were blowing at a speed of 180 to 200 kilometers per hour.

The cyclone can change its path after gaining intensity and head northeast. There is a high probability that Maha will touch the Indian state of Gujarat on November 6 or 7. The PMD added in their advisory that the cyclone does not pose any threat to the coastal areas of the country.

The cyclone, however, may cause rains and high tides in the sea. PMD has warned fishermen against venturing out into the open sea till November 6.
