The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has approved four mega projects for combating environmental degradation in the province, said Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Dr Muhammad Bashir.
Bashir said that among the projects, one is about setting up of divisional offices of EPA in three cities of K-P – Mardan, Kohat and Bannu – which will cost up to Rs30 million. The regional offices of EPA will work on taking measures to contain environmental hazards in these cities. The offices will also conduct raids to monitor the level of environmental hazards in their respective areas.
The second project is related to installation of water cleaner processing units at marble factories to make used water less hazardous for irrigation purposes. The government has earmarked an amount of Rs25 million for the project, he added.
The new projects also include launching of a special programme costing up to Rs9 million for combating pollution, both air and noise.
