Model courts provide speedy justice
In Sheikhupura, judges decide pending cases and also hear new ones within allotted time

Residents of Sheikhupura breathed a sigh of relief as their cases, pending in courts for years, have now been resolved due to model courts.
After taking charge as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa directed to set up model courts across the country to ensure timely justice to the complainants.
Initially, he ordered to complete the trial within seven days, which was opposed by the lawyers’ community. After several protests, he increased the trial to three months. Following his orders, judges across the courts in Pakistan gave a verdict for cases pending for several years. In the Sheikhupura district, judges not only decided pending cases but also heard new ones within the time allotted and achieved the target of resolving cases.
Model Courts deciding cases expeditiously
Around 1,800 complicated cases, including murders, have been decided in the last six months in district Sheikhupura.
Talking to The Express Tribune, District and Sessions Judge Rao Abdul Jabbar Khan said that model courts have decided the verdicts of more than 1,800 cases, including murder cases, in the past six months. Moreover, model courts, which ware set up to deal with monetary and property disputes, also resolved 40 pending cases in only eight days. Khan initiated an especial execution court last month in order to ensure the implementation of verdicts of family courts and recovered Rs14.6 million. He added that the judges of model courts hear cases late into the evening to ensure timely justice to the people.
